Spring into Summer 2026
Wow, where did the spring go? It’s been a season of unexpected ups and downs, in both temperatures and precipitation. And it seemed that everything was blooming all at once: I’ve never seen tulips and peonies at the same time, or forsythia and lilacs blooming at the same time!
The good news is that our seasonal favourites are all making their appearances at the markets: rhubarb ginger jam [where I picked the rhubarb in the morning @forstbauerfarm (thanks Lindsey and Nicklaus!) and canned it that afternoon]. This early crop was surprisingly sweet.
And of course, we now have some pickled fiddleheads (thanks Matt @yourwildestfoods), with that crispy, crunchy pickled sea asparagus on the way for the June market dates.
Plus some delicious, nutritious garlic scape pesto is now available (thanks Abul @bcgarlic for the tender Asiatic scapes!).
We’ve sold out of pickled daikon and carrots; no more until those spicey organically-grown daikons come back in the late fall.

Spring into Summer 2026
Wow, where did the spring go? It’s been a season of unexpected ups and downs, in both temperatures and precipitation. And it seemed that everything was blooming all at once: I’ve never seen tulips and peonies at the same time, or forsythia and lilacs blooming at the same time!

It was a wonderful break, with two fabulous weeks back in Japan. Refreshing and uplifting, aesthetically pleasing, cognitively challenging, and profoundly relaxing! Here’s a few photos of the journey to share with you.

Holiday Season is upon us! And we are counting down the days for our last 6 markets of 2025, listed below. We will have some lovely Holiday Trios for sale, great as hostess gifts or stocking stuffers. They are nicely packaged with a little bow and come with serving suggestions for each product.
And yes, for our very patient customers, finally we have quince jelly and membrillo, thanks to Aaron and his family @snowy_mountain_farm!! A new product is ginger pear preserves, made with those delicious Bosc pears (again thank you to Aaron and Carly) and some crystalized ginger; great on a cracker with some goat cheese and an Italian parsley leaf to top it off. And back by popular demand for the Holiday Season is apple butter (try half a teaspoon in your rum toddy!).
We have sold out of bread and butter pickles for the year, but thanks to @icecaporganics we have some gorgeous daikon which has been pickled with carrots from @forstbauerfarm, in the Japanese style of kohaku namasu. Come check it out!
Just to remind everyone, we’ll be taking 8 weeks off after Christmas, coming back for Valentine’s Day at Riley Park on February 14th.
So come on by and stock up for the season!!

It’s autumn: the days are shorter, the nights are cooler, and the beautiful clear blue skies nicely frame the vibrant red and yellow leaves here in the Fraser Valley. And here’s an edible homage to autumn: Calabrian hot pepper jam photographed at last Sunday’s @MountPleasantFarmersMarket by the very artistically talented @lauragibsonnov, who is also our Amazing VFM District Manager. The appearance of this most recent addition to the Epicure Preserves’ product line up is thanks to a @farmersmarketWhiteRock customer who asked if we had any hot pepper jam for sale. So the next week when a Kitsilano @vanmarkets customer enthusiastically pointed out some Calabrian hot peppers for sale @SteinMountainFarm stall, over I went to check them out! After experimenting with an Italian recipe (after all these peppers are the jewel of Calibri!), this lovely fruity, smokey and slightly hot jam has made its way to the autumn product lineup. (Calabrian peppers are midway between jalapenos and habaneros on the Scoville heat scale.) Great with your egg poppers in the morning, use a tablespoon to spice up your pasta sauce, and try it as a glaze for roasted veggies. We’ve only got a small batch, so come on by for a taste before they’re sold out! And “Sold Out” was a big theme for our last Kits market! Thank you to all our wonderful customers who appreciate all the love and science that goes into creating our delectable products, and who buy us out!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s September… where did the summer go?!
But the sun keeps shining and many thanks to Vancouver photographer Max Hesse, who captured this lovely shot of our best seller – apricot habanero jelly – perching in the sunshine at the last @ubcfarm Farmers Market. Note that marmalade season is around the corner in late October, but right now it’s peak season for BC Lower Mainland produce.
The cucumbers have hit their delicious nutritious peak, and the dill weed is still happily flowering @forstbauerfarm, so I’ve been busy creating that inventory. The first batch of our famous crunchy garlic dill pickles is now ready for purchase at the markets. Followed shortly by those sweet and crunchy bread & butter pickles. Thanks to my friend Abdul @bcgarlic for growing the amazing garlic varietals, they definitely make the pickles sing!
And the first batch of the long-awaited non-GMO roasted corn relish is also now available, grown in Chilliwack @forstbauerfarms. For all our very patient roma tomato salsa customers, finally the San Marzano romas have ripened @oleraorganicfarms. Riyad says they just needed a bit more sunshine! Also on the roster for late summer is hamburger relish, which you can’t find in the stores anymore!
We now have peach melba in stock, plus a newcomer to the jelly line up: black currant cassis (thanks to Stephen @brokengrain). So excited to welcome the third wave of strawberries, and yes, my friends, we will have more strawberry star anise and strawberry Thai basil jams at our upcoming markets!!
A number of customers have requested a flat of salsa (12 x 250ml jars) – so this is a great time to order ahead. Email Elizabeth at epicurepreserves@gmail.com and place your order for whatever catches your fancy and give us 2 weeks’ notice for pick-up. We are back!! Happy New Year to all our wonderful customers, vendor friends and market staff. Can’t wait to see you and catch up.
It’s been a great eight weeks off, taking time to re-charge the batteries, re-channel some creative energies into cooking, quilting and ikebana, and spending time with loved ones. These past couple of weeks, however, have been very fulfilling as I have come back into the kitchen re-energized and so happy to lovingly create lots of new inventory.
It’s citrus season, so get your tastebuds ready: we will have a selection of delicious and nutritious seasonal marmalades including blood orange and cara cara, along with the standards of lemon elderflower and lime jalapeno.

Check them out: https://www.growingchefs.ca/lunchlab Did you know that Canada is the only G7 country that doesn’t have a national school food program?! Clearly we have some work to do and Growing Chefs is leading the way here in BC.
Yahoo, we now have confirmation of our summer market dates at Coquitlam, Riley Park, UBC, Mount Pleasant and we will be expanding to include White Rock and Kitsilano come May. It’s gonna be a busy summer!!
Come visit us this weekend at Riley Park and Kits and stock up on all the goodies for Family Day, including seasonal marmalades, mango chutney as well as some fresh chimichurri and harissa!

A note to our customers who have been asking if there will be any more quince jelly and that dearly sought after membrillo…unfortunately we were only able to source enough quince for a single batch of jelly. Because of the very tough weather conditions last year in the Okanagan (warm December, freezing January & February, with a late frost early April), our farmers lost most of their stone fruits, and quince was among the hardest hit. Let’s hope for more favourable weather this winter, and look forward to lots of quince jelly and that fabulous membrillo next season.
However, don’t worry, we’ve still got a booth full of delicious, nutritious fall seasonal products, so come on by and stock up for the holidays. 😊

Here we go, heading into the winter market season!

It is the end of the summer and the beginning of fall… this means it’s PICKLE and RELISH season! Gorgeous organic pickles from @forstbauerfarm and ginormous Bogatir garlic from @bcgarlic…
So our pickle family now features crunchy garlic dill pickles, bread & butter pickles, roasted corn relish, and of course spiced pickled beets.
Many thanks to a new friend here in Abbotsford who generously offered me her quince and crab apples: the fall line-up will once again feature that aphrodisiac quince jelly, membrillo and the crab apple thyme jelly customers have patiently been waiting for. Thank you Katz!!
We have started receiving some custom bulk orders for Christmas, so it’s going to be a very busy few months ahead for creating all the new inventory.

Summer is here and heatwave season has begun. Whew * we’ve charted 33-36 oC this week, with no rain. Nonetheless, the farmers berries are hydrated and happily growing as you can see @willemsberryfarm, and as a result we have strawberry Thai basil & strawberry star anise jams, plus the long-awaited raspberry cardamom jelly! Yum, just perfect for a cooler evening’s charcuterie board dinner. We managed to get some beautiful peonies along with the first batch of strawberries.. aren’t they so beautiful! Plus we have a batch of the long-awaited garlic scape pesto; thanks to Abdul @bcgarlicgrowers. His porcelain (Bogatir) scape is tender, super tasty without the bitterness that the Red Russian varietal often has. It’s made with pine nuts, some Genovese basil, olive oil and lots of love and freshly grated parmesan. Thanks to our lovely customer Jim, who suggested we make the product, here comes some watercress pesto, with Matt’s wild-foraged efforts @yourwildestfoods. This time around the smoothness of roasted hazelnuts complements the peppery notes of the watercress. Try it on some farfalle pasta with freshly grated black pepper alongside your fave protein, like grilled Coho salmon.
We’ve also experimented with some pickled okra… delicious and crunchy. This newbie will have to wait until the heatwave is over before full production can occur. Stay tuned… And finally! – the delightful rhubarb ginger jam, has re-joined the lineup thanks to Lindsey and her family @forstbauerfamilyfarm. Come check it out… taste tests always available for our products at the Farmers Markets.
As mentioned in our last post, we’ll be away for 10 days in August, heading up to Haida Gwaii for the Edge of the World Festival. Taking some time with the family to go fishing, kayaking and hiking… and yes, we will be catering the Festival again, on Friday only this year.

It’s finally Spring here on the Pacific Coast! And so we are busy getting the inventory ready for this season’s delicious, nutritious jams, jellies and preserves.
This spring we have a new member of the jelly family: debuting next Sunday will be some wild-foraged spruce tip jelly thanks to Benoit @foragedlandfarm. These bright green spikes became this lovely misty jelly that has a piney, citrusy flavour with some subtle resin notes. Perfect of course for cheese and crackers, but makes a lovely glaze for baked salmon, on pork, smoked tofu or your fave vegan burger.
Also available next market will be pickled fiddleheads, thanks to Matt (@yourwildestfoods) foraging these lovely ostrich fern curlicues. Look at those happy green faces!!

It was an insanely busy spring start with a big household move from Port Moody to northwest Abbotsford in mid-March, putting us closer to our farmers here in the Fraser Valley. I must say how wonderfully quiet it is: no police, fire or ambulance sirens, no trucks, no trains, no high rises, no urban densification construction. Open windows at night and you can’t hear anything… except the occasional bird chirping. Sigh *

Another newbie is “bread and butter pickles”, made with organically grown cucumbers from @forstbauerfarms. My son Armand asked me to make some of these pickles for his restaurant @cedarandsaltbistro, and now they’ve joined the Epicure Preserves inventory! More family updates: my daughter Chantal, newly enrolled in the Indigenous Law Program at U Vic this fall, was the winner of the UBC Environmental Law Program competition this month, along with her colleague Sean. Woo hoo! Lastly, many thanks to all our lovely customers who bring back empty jars: 50 cents each towards your next purchase. Thank you so much for re-cycling and re-using.

The time spent in Haida Gwaii was magical. If you haven’t been there, you must go: it is the most amazing, life-changing, spiritual place on this planet. Come by and pick up a Trip Planner (published by MIEDS, edited by my amazing daughter Chantal as ED of MIEDS). I still have a few free copies to hand out… :)

Wow, I thought May flew by way too fast and already we’re launching August! 😮Yeessh… sorry guys for the lack of IG posts.
It’s peak season for BC Lower Mainland and Okanagan produce with peach melba now in stock, plus blackberry kirsch jelly making her re-appearance. So excited to welcome the second wave of strawberries, and delightfully we managed to scoop up some end-of-season raspberries. So more raspberry cardamom jelly for sure.
And yes, my friends, we will have more strawberry star anise and strawberry Thai basil at our next markets!! Plus a little gift jar for Rayna as she turns 2 years old this year! 🎉
The cucumbers @forstbauerfarms are in their delicious nutritious peak, plus dill weed is flowering. And omg look at those gorgeous Bogatir garlics from @bcgarlic!!! That means Epicure Preserves’ garlic dill pickles are now being canned and will be ready for purchase in another 6 weeks. These babies need time to cure in the brine, so you will have the crunchiest dill pickles starting mid-September.

Wow, I thought May flew by way too fast and already we’re launching August! 😮Yeessh… sorry guys for the lack of IG posts.
It’s peak season for BC Lower Mainland and Okanagan produce with peach melba now in stock, plus blackberry kirsch jelly making her re-appearance. So excited to welcome the second wave of strawberries, and delightfully we managed to scoop up some end-of-season raspberries. So more raspberry cardamom jelly for sure.
And yes, my friends, we will have more strawberry star anise and strawberry Thai basil at our next markets!! Plus a little gift jar for Rayna as she turns 2 years old this year! 🎉
The cucumbers @forstbauerfarms are in their delicious nutritious peak, plus dill weed is flowering. And omg look at those gorgeous Bogatir garlics from @bcgarlic!!! That means Epicure Preserves’ garlic dill pickles are now being canned and will be ready for purchase in another 6 weeks. These babies need time to cure in the brine, so you will have the crunchiest dill pickles starting mid-September.

We’re a little late in posting this month’s dates, but it’s been a super busy March with lots of back-to-back farmers markets, plus spring ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) shows. Check out @sogetsuvancouver for some spectacular photos from the Federation of Canadian Artists BLOOM show at the Art Gallery in Granville.
Also up and blooming this month are some new seasonal spring products like nettle pesto and pickled fiddlehead ferns. We’re just working on the best brine for the fiddleheads now and will partner with @yourwildestfoods in May to produce a big batch of these crisp and crunchy spring pickles.

We’re back from Brazil! What an amazing trip, here’s a few photos. Rio has amazing street art, lots of friendly food vendors, and samba dancing everywhere! Sunrises over Ilha Grande, beautiful beaches and scuba diving filled our last week there.

And now, we are right in the middle of citrus season once again…. Our seasonal marmalades include Epicure Preserves’ original red pomelo (great with blue cheese), Meyer lemon (much less bitter than regular lemons), a tart and delightful lemon elderflower, blood orange (great with nutty cheeses like Swiss or Emmenthal), cara cara (a sweet, early-ripening navel orange from northern California) and the all-time favourite lime jalapeño (try with nut butters or as a glaze for white meats including fish).

Back by customer demand is fig and onion jam. We’ve also stocked up on mango chutney, hot bell pepper jelly, harissa and chimichurri, so come on out, choose your favourites and Try a Trio for $21

Well yesterday’s snowfall here in the Lower Mainland was quite the launch into winter weather! The snow is beautiful… on the mountains, but such a challenge for drivers on the road.
Last Sunday’s market at Hastings PNE was gorgeously clear and sunny, but quite cold and windy, so thanks to all our lovely customers who came out to #supportlocal.
This weekend, however, we are indoors @coquitlamcrafts for the Coquitlam Christmas Craft Fair. Hooray for warm toes and fingers!!!! Please come join us Friday December 2nd (4 to 9), Saturday (10 to 6) and Sunday (10 to 4) at the Poirier Forum, 618 Poirier Street. We're in Booth 98.

Next weekend we are @coquitlammarket Christmas Market, also indoors, all day Saturday Dec 10th from 9 to 4, at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.

On Sunday Dec 11th we’re back outside @portmoodymarket for the Winter Market from 10:00 to 2:00. Saturday Dec 15th we’re on standby for Riley Park (10 to 2).
And Sunday Dec 18th we’ll be back at Hastings once again for our last market of the year, also running from 10 to 2. Toe warmers likely required!

We have put together some delicious trios for entertaining at home, to give as hostess gifts or as stocking stuffers. Here are a couple of examples:
1. For the cheese board: apricot habanero jelly (delicious on baked Brie), red pomelo marmalade (pairs beautifully with cheddar), concord grape jelly (yummy on goat cheese);
2. For the charcuterie board: lemon rosemary jelly (pairs with white meats like pork or chicken), chimichurri (great as a spread or mixed with humus), cranberry orange jelly (plays well with prosciutto or bresaola).

Or come on out and assemble your personal favourite trio, including for vegan or dairy-free pairings. Seasonal favourites now include lemon elderflower marmalade, lime jalapeno marmalade, quince jelly, membrillo, harissa, hot bell pepper jelly, and more.

Well, it is officially the end of the summer Farmers Market season here in the Lower Mainland @vanmarkets, @coquitlammarket and @portmoodymarket, and the beginning of the Winter Farmers Market season.

Well, except for the UBC market @ubcfarm which happily continues till the end of November (let’s hope the atmospheric rivers and winds in Pacific Spirit Regional Park don’t blow us all away before the end of the month!).

Well, except for the UBC market @ubcfarm which happily continues till the end of November (let’s hope the atmospheric rivers and winds in Pacific Spirit Regional Park don’t blow us all away before the end of the month!).

We’ve been so busy in the kitchen preserving the bounty of the harvest, that our IG posts have taken a back seat. But we are catching up and want to make sure you know where to find us this month.

It’s been a busy week in the kitchen creating delicious inventory! 🤓
We were @vanmarkets Riley Park today and it was wonderful! Thank you to Bree and her crew, to our new and returning customers, and to all our generous, friendly vendors. Amman @chefspoon1 was next door, and the delicious aroma of his soups was a super delight all day. Abdul from @bcgarlic gave his stamp of approval for our garlic scape pesto (made form his farm’s garlic scapes!). Yaaay!
The rain held off for the most part, and despite a crazy wind & temperature dance, nothing blew away or froze!
A number of our customers have asked for more citrus products throughout the year, not just in the winter line-up of products. All rightie then!
Today we introduced our lemon-elderflower marmalade, fresh out of the kitchen gates this week…. and it sold out! It’s always delicious on your breakfast toast, pancake or bagel, but for you foodies, brush it over some sponge cake or your oatmeal-date squares. Plus, it’s a lovely tart-sweet accompaniment for fish, chicken or pork, as well as for vegan squash flowers filled with ground sweet peas.
We’re @coquitlammarket tomorrow from 9:00 to 1:00, so come on out and treat your tastebuds as we’ve got lots of samples to share.

It is finally summer! The first crop of strawberries was magnificent: look at those bright, happy faces 😍@willemsberryfarm! These beauties were picked in the morning and turned into a batch of strawberry Thai basil jam and a batch of strawberry star anise jam in the afternoon. Savoury and sweet pairings for your charcuterie board.
They also have an awesome flower garden: these peonies were fragrant and long-lasting.
Next up in the early summer product line-up is locally harvested sea asparagus, which is now pickled with a garlic-peppercorn brine. Try these crunchy salty pickles with your next smoked salmon eggs benny!
This week the raspberries are making their seasonal debut here in the Lower Mainland, so it’s time to get out there and pick a bushel for raspberry cardamom jelly, which was a huge favourite last year. So for all our customers who have patiently waited for this season’s batch, check us out next weekend @vanmarkets Riley Park Saturday July 16th, and @coquitlammarket Sunday July 17th.
And grrreat news: we have been invited to @ubcfarm Saturday Farmers Markets, 3461 Ross Avenue, starting tomorrow, July 9th. Woop woop!! Thanks Kyne and team. We are so excited to join the vendor lineup there and look forward to meeting all our new customers out by Pacific Spirit Park from 10:00 to 2:00. Yesterday we joined the vendor line-up at @vanmarkets Mount Pleasant Farmers Market and what a great day it was! 😁The rain held off, the sun shone through the clouds and Laura and her market staff got everyone efficiently organized.
A very big Thank You 🙏to all our new customers, who happily sampled this season’s newest product, rhubarb ginger jam: we sold out! And many thanks to my lovely fellow vendors for encouraging me to provide samples: Sarah @kasanhifinefoods and Bryan @therawkalechipguy.
It was a pleasure to make new vendor friends too: Stephanie of Casa de Nata. I am so grateful for the kindness and generosity of the farmers market community here in the Lower Mainland of BC. ❤️
It’s been a busy month of May with several floral spring shows #sogetsuvancouver and #vancouverikebana occupying my time, so I’ve been a little slow to post for Epicure Preserves. Nonetheless, here we are, launching into June… yikes, halfway through the year!!
Great news: we will join the summer vendors lineup @vanmarkets at Riley Park this Saturday June 4th from 10:00 – 2:00. And we’ll be there again June 11th and 25th, all Saturdays.
We are also booked for Mount Pleasant June 12th and 19th (Father’s Day specials) as well.
On Sunday June 5th and 26th we will be back at #Coquitlam Farmers Market.
